What is a computer virus? Symptoms, types and prevention of viruses

What is a computer virus?

The computer works on the software system and through this software, viruses get into our PC. This virus is like a flu virus. Just as the virus enters the human body, our disease weakens the resistance and makes us sick. Similarly, software designed for computers that affect the working speed of the computer and disrupts computer work is called a virus. It is like other software, it is a program that copies itself and spreads from one computer to another through the same. Mostly this virus is spread through a pen drive, file, or document.
If you talk about viruses in technical language, then it is a malicious code or program. Which is written for the purpose of changing the way of computer operation. And it is designed to spread from one computer to another. A virus operates by inserting or attaching itself to a valid program or document that supports macros to execute the code. The virus is then capable of causing unexpected or harmful effects. And harms our system software or data.

Symptoms when the virus enters the computer

A pop-up window can get you excited to visit common sites over and over again.
You may be unable to reset the homepage and your normal homepage may change to another website.
Your email account may receive excessive messages, and the culprit can control your account.
Suddenly slow computer performance indicates that your computer may have a virus.
Unusual activities such as password changes can prevent you from logging into the computer.

Types of viruses in 2020

1. Boot sector virus

The virus spreads through removable media. And infects the master boot record. This virus is quite difficult to remove and often requires formatting the system.

2. Direct Action Virus.

This virus is mostly inactive. But when executing the file containing the virus, the form of this virus comes out.

3. Resident Virus

Identifying and removing the resident virus is a very difficult task as this virus inserts itself into the memory of the computer system.

4. Multipartite Virus

The infecting speed of these viruses is high. This virus infects both the program file and the system sector.

5. Polymorphic Virus

To avoid the Polymorphic Virus antivirus program, its code changes every time the infected file is executed.

6. Overwrite Virus

The medium for the spread of this virus is email and its infection removes all files.

7. Spacefiller Virus

Spacefiller is a virus that does not harm files. And occupies the empty space between the corners. This virus is also known as the cavity virus.

8. File Infector Virus

File Infector Virus inserts malicious code into executable files to perform certain functions or operations on a system. It is also known as a parasitic virus because it is associated with program files, such as as.COM .EXE files.

9. Web scripting virus

A script virus is a malicious code that exploits the code of web pages. If we reach such a web page then it infects our computer.

10. Browser hijacker

Such viruses “hijack” some web browsers, and you may be automatically directed to an uninstalled website.

11. Macro virus

Such viruses spread by opening infected documents. An example of which is the Melissa virus, when a user opens a Microsoft Word document containing the Melissa virus, their computer becomes infected.

How to stop the virus

To prevent all types of viruses, you must have anti-virus. Although most of the anti-viruses are not able to protect your PC, if you use more internet then you can use any anti-virus paid version which updates you when the new virus comes. With which you can easily protect your PC, but if you do not use the Internet much, then you can download the free version.
